About Sakaza Afrika
Sakaza Afrika is a pan-African strategic communications and media firm PR'ing Africa through bold storytelling, data-driven insights, and technology-powered platforms. We build campaigns, tools, and narratives that move people — from message to movement.
Sakaza
/sɑː-kah-zah/
verb (isiZulu)
To broadcast.
To proclaim.
To share.
Our name reflects our purpose: to strategically amplify the brilliance of Africa — loudly, creatively, and unapologetically!
We call it PR’ing Africa: our proprietary approach that blends media, strategy and digital tools to inspire action, shape perception, and mobilize change across the continent.

Why we’re loud about Africa
Africa is already buzzing with visionaries, problem-solvers and creators. What’s missing? The volume. The visibility. The recognition! We’re here to:
Shift the lens — Africa is a thousand perspectives, not one story
Equip change-makers with tools to be heard
Connect power players behind bold solutions to spark pan-African transformation
Elevate African women as storytellers, investors, and leaders shaping our future.
The forces behind Sakaza
Nelisa Ngqulana
A seasoned communications strategist with over 20 years of experience across Africa. Nelisa has advised the regional bodies, UN agencies, foundations, and corporations on strategic storytelling, advocacy, and digital media. She currently serves as the chairperson of Gender Based Rights in Tech, a South African non-profit organisation focused on combating gender based violence through technology and access to necessary services
“Communication is more than a message. It’s a tool for development and visibility — especially for women, communities, and entrepreneurs across Africa.”
Penny Lebyane
A celebrated broadcaster, media advocate, and pan-African storyteller. Penny brings decades of experience in media, leadership, and social commentary. As co-founder of Sakaza, she champions visibility for women in finance, culture, and business — leading initiatives that connect grassroots stories to global stages.
“When African women tell their own stories — unapologetically and visibly — the world shifts.”
How we PR Africa
We operate as a pan-African media-tech platform, with three integrated streams:
Sakaza DigiMedia Studio — Where story meets strategy
Our creative production hub, where we craft:
- Short films and campaign reels
- Podcasts and vodcasts
- Livestreams and interactive media
We’ve built platforms to scale this work, like our flagship platform, #BankOnHer, a digital-first campaign pushing women’s access to finance across Africa.
Sakaza Tech Lab - Where tools drive change
We code transformation into reality through:
- Social Sense: an AI-powered brand trust and reputation tool
- Commitment Tracker: a real-time accountability and transparency tracker for institutional commitments
- Interactive Story Maps:A digital storytelling tool that blends map-based narratives, audio, visuals, and data
We license these tools to clients and partners, or power them through our own campaigns.
Sakaza DigiMedia Studio — Where story meets strategy
This is our strategy and legacy studio — where leaders, founders, and changemakers learn to shape their voice and presence with purpose.
We offer brand positioning, executive communications coaching, media training, and storytelling strategy for those driving transformation in their industries and communities.
From CEOs to ambassadors, we work with people who are ready to amplify their impact — and tell stories that leave a mark.
